Windsurfers can achieve jumps topping 3-5 meters (10-16ft) and reach speeds up to 50 kph (31mph).  One of the most remarkable achievements in the sport is the world speed record set by Antoine Albeau, who reached an astonishing speed of 53.27 knots (98.66 km/h) in 2015.  This Olympic sport originated with Newman Darby around 1963 and was refined by Hoyle Schweitzer and Jim Drake in 1968 when they developed an articulated mast and universal joint that allowed the mast to swivel.
